August 2017 - The Nina

July 31, 2017

Our {love} project Initiative for the month of August is the Nina Haggerty Centre for the Arts and we are SO Excited about Supporting this INCREDIBLE Initiative!

Since it was founded in 2003, the Nina Haggerty Centre for the Arts has been home to one of Edmonton’s most interesting art collectives, made up entirely of artists with developmental disabilities. What began as a collective of one has grown to include almost 200 members, whose work has been shown throughout Canada and the world.

Dear Nicole and Sweet Jolie Staff,

On behalf of the Nina Haggerty Centre for the Arts I wanted to send you a heart felt thank-you for choosing our charity as your “August Love Project.” We admire “Sweet Jolie” for your continuous community support and your incredible philosophy as a retailer.

As you know the Nina works with our 200 artists with developmental disabilities such as Autism and Down Syndrome to enable them to express themselves through music, dance, painting, clay, computer animation and so much more. We could not do what we do without the support of companies like yours that give back so much.

Choosing the Nina as a charity partner not only provides the centre with funds needed to support our programs and purchase art supplies but also helps to create awareness of the services we provide in the community such as free art classes for inner city at risk youth, free family arts night and art classes for children with developmental disabilities.

We are honoured to be partnered with you throughout August, especially to help celebrate the Grand Opening on August 19th. Once again thank-you for all you do and for supporting the Nina. We are so grateful and excited.

..."Alopecia is the loss or the absence of hair. In simple terms, the immune system, for unknown reasons, attacks the hair root and causes hair loss. At 7 years old, she is already aware of the fact that she looks "different", and as a mother, Nicole is on a mission to bring awareness of this disease, as well as raise funds to find a cure for it. Although this Auto-Immune Disorder isn't life-threatening, it's VERY difficult on a girls' self-esteem and self-image in a society that puts so much weight on beauty and outward appearances!..."
